Trav started his career in earthwork after high school in 2007 with a 1-year training program in heavy equipment operations. Trav spent his first year operating on a highway-heavy crew constructing new roads in Minnesota. Realizing he was better with numbers……. not levers, Trav spent the following years between 2 contractors running a Topcon GPS rover with the first and laser/eye level with the second.

After his time in the field, he worked his way into an estimating position for a commercial earthwork company in Minnesota. Estimating jobs from $10,000 up to $2.5 million. Bidding new industrial buildings, retail stores, large residential complexes, and schools.

With his time in the field, he has learned production and constructability. Trav understands how these projects are built. With Trav’s time as an estimator, he has learned takeoffs are not just a tool to spit out quantities. It’s a tool used to get creative and figure a way to beat the other guy. Every project can be interpreted in a different way to give yourself an edge over the rest of the pack. This industry is competitive, every cubic yard counts.
